Photoshoot - Melvin Gutierrez

I’ve know Melvin for years now and he has always been a performer. He is gaining a following of fans online with about 7,000 subscribers on youtube and playing shows up and down California. After reconnecting with him the past year through my work with Luna Co., we finally got a chance to get together and take some photos. The photoshoot was very spur of the moment and we drove around the Presidio/Marina area of San Francisco, finding spots to shoot.  We ended up at the Palace of Fine Arts and Fort Point, using the surrounding buildings and views as the background.

Event - Kababayan Fest, Great American (San Jose, CA)

Kababayan Fest is a Filipino Festival and Showcase. This year’s event was filled with a lot of amazingly talented people like AJ Rafael Band, Erin Paula, Melvin Gutierrez, Legaci, Melissa Polinar, Mango Kingz and more.

Some retouching samples I’ve done on my photoshoots. I usually don’t try to do too much. Mostly just clean up and color corrections. 

Photoshoot - AJ Rafael Band

This set of photos is from a shoot I had with AJ and his band earlier this year. We did this shoot before the Ana Julaton championship fight at which he was scheduled to perform. The guys were super easy to photograph since they just vibed off each other.

It was just a simple photoshoot with one light. We didn’t have much time to pull it off but the photos came out great. The indoor photographs were created with light leaking through the glass building which happened to be filled with fog from a machine. A light to camera right was used as a fill.

Event - AJ Rafael Album Release Party

AJ Rafael released his first full album, Red Roses, on June 7, 2011. The album can be purchased at Best Buy or Target as well as online on iTunes and Amazon. The response to his album has been amazing. Within the first few hours, he became number 7 on the iTunes pop chart and number 65 overall. Many stores were selling out on the first day.

AJ had 2 album release parties, one in San Diego and on in the Bay Area. These photos were taken on June 10 at Mink Lounge in Daly City, CA. Guest performances included Melvin Gutierrez, Sheryl Ann Padre and AJ’s Bassist, Noah Bartfield.

Design Deliverables: The Invisible City
During my Graphic Design Internship last year at BAYCAT, I designed these two posters for a short film that the two cinematography interns produced. I also worked on set and production design for the movie. Hopefully it will be out soon and these posters can be sent out to print for the premiere.  

Design Deliverables: Fear the Beard
While the SF Giants were on the race to win the World Series last year, [and they did] my friend Mike (MikeV Design) drew this sketch of Brian Wilson. I decided to toss it into illustrator and vector it. I must say, it came out pretty well. I even made a cardboard cutout (about 2x3’) and hope that I can get Wilson to sign it one day.

I finally got a chance to get together with my friends, April, Nic and Lex to have a photoshoot session with them. Together, they form XOXO and have been gaining a huge following on YouTube for the past couple years for their music. They have recently released their first EP, ‘Ready’ which you can get on ITunes!
